New Trends in Medical Devices

FDA Approves Nanomedicine

Hey there! Over the next few days we’ll look at new trends that you might not know about. Modern medicine is growing leaps and bounds. You should be aware of how you can be treated and what can be used in your body. Is it good or bad? You decide….

So what is Nanomedicine?

According to Britannica - nanomedicine, branch of medicine that seeks to apply nanotechnology—that is, the manipulation and manufacture of materials and devices that are roughly 1 to 100 nanometres (nm; 1 nm = 0.0000001 cm) in size—to the prevention of disease and to imaging, diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, repair, and regeneration of biological systems. So, why should you care?

Nanotechnology is slowly creeping into our daily lives? It may sound like something out of a sci-fi movie, but it's true! In fact, just a few years ago, scientists made headlines by creating tiny robots called Xenobots or Nanoparticles that can self-replicate. And if that's not mind-blowing enough, 2023 is expected to bring even more revolutionary news in the field of nanomedicine.

This technology can include things like biocompatible nanoparticles, Nanoelectronic devices, and even nanorobots (yes, you read that right!).

In an articles posting on the National Library of Medicine’s website, Nanotherapeutics have already been FDA-approved and are available for clinical use, including treatments for cancer, high cholesterol, autoimmune disease, fungal infections, macular degeneration, hepatitis, and many other conditions.

Some additional FDA approved uses include treatments for cancer, high cholesterol, autoimmune diseases, drugs and more.

Do you consider this good, bad or maybe even a leap forward….? Stay tuned for the next issue, we will go over another new Device!
